Answer: One way to downplay a specific style is to use a plain colored tablecloth. If you utilize your hutch to hold a dish colloection then downplay this area as well. I would either remove the dishes and save them for formal gatherings, then replace them with something casual or intermix some casul pieces to the hutch along with your formal dishes. Also, changing out your curtains may help. If money is a concern then changing all of your artwork and accessories is not an option right now. Therefore, consider painting them in a less formal color.
