Name: LisaL Title of Question: Covering Lampshades
Question: I am trying to find out how to cover two lampshades with a Waverly Vintage Rose fabric. Finding the fabric is difficult enough, let alone trying to find a "how to" on doing it myself. Can anyone help or recommend? Thank you LisaL talobx@alt3.com

Answer: I have done this. I assume you have the shades. You need to make a paper template or pattern first. Lay the shade down on it's side on the paper ( you will need a fairly large piece of paper)starting at the seam and with a pencil draw on the paper along the bottom edge of the shade as you roll the shade across the paper until you reach the seam again. Then repeat for the top measurement. Because of the shade's shape which is generally wider at the bottom, your pattern will look funny to you. The bottom will be a big wide curve up (like a smile) and the top will be too but smaller. Cut out the paper pattern and adjust it to fit your shade. Once you like the fit, you can cut your fabric. Try the fabric on the shade before gluing. I used spray adhesive and sprayed the shade and then applied my fabric. You can also spray the fabric instead. You can use some kind of trim ( gimp etc) to cover the raw edges of fabric at the top and bottom of shade. Just glue the trim on. I found ribbon for the trim hard to work with. Fun project to spruce up a dirty lampshade or make one to co-ordinate with your room. P.S. Waverly fabric has a web site and you can get a price quote from "Interior Mall(once you know the name or number of the fabric.

Answer: YOU CAN TAKE FOIL AND PRESS AGAINST FRAME OR WRAPPING PAPER TO GET A PATTERN OR YOU COULD WRAP THE WHOLE FRAME IN RAYON HEMMING MATERIAL AND SEW FABRIC TO SHADE IN SECTIONS AND MAKE BIAS TAPE TO FINISH OFF.
