Question: I have a very large den. the floors are brick and there is a brick fireplace floor to ceiling. the walls are off white with dark panel waynescote. the steps that lead down to the den are also brick but semi circle. the den has very large outside windows. the den also has two large window less glass that peeps into the hall that I have hung stained glass. My furniture is leather and the tables are dark..It is ugly and I sit and stare at it for hours and nothing clicks..

Answer: sounds like you live in a home of elegance, but it is heavy/dark and lacks color. to easily add charm and color to the room, fill the off-white walls with large artwork with the colors you like. if you want to maintain the ruggedly handsome ambiance of the room, go with artwork with muted color tones. If you want to really brighten it and give it a modern edge, get prints of vibrance -- think Andy Warhol. Goto: http://www.art.com and look at some pieces. Find some that appeal to you. then use those as a guide on a look for your room.

Answer: I think the brick is a classic look. I would consider staining or painting the wainscoting an off white to brighten up the room. Lighting is also very important - recessed lights on dimmers allow you to control the amount. I hope this helps.
