Question: What are the best flowers to plant in a perennial garden, and how should they be planted? Your ideas will be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer: The "best' flowers are the ones you like! You must however choose the plants based on the amount of light the area gets and the planting "zone" you're in. Also, I prefer no more than 3 colors in each area. You should also mix the plants based on when they bloom, so you have a progression of blooms. Some of my favorites are peonies, russian sage, pink fairy roses, lavender and Daylilies. These would all need a sunny area. Hostas work well for me in shady areas and hydrangeas will do well in a partially shady area ( some sun and some shade).
