Home : Q&A : Kitchen : Mixing metals in a kitchen with white cabinets

Name: Brenda Title of Question: Mixing metals in a kitchen with white cabinets
Question: I am concerned as we are do a kitchen renovation. The kitchen is stark white cabinets. We are going in w/ a tan'ish granite some khaki in the stone, but not real obvious. It is really pretty. We are doing relaxed Khaki on the walls and my thoughts were to go w/ a stainless cooktop and stainless sink. The owner picked out antique rubbed bronze (dark brown), but they have brass (bright brass) around fittings (obvious). Personally I though the brushed nickel would really make it look rich and keep everything else in line.. Please advise. I think we are dragging the remodel down with too many metals. venable1@sbcglobal.net

Answer: The brushed nickel and the oil rubbed bronze are both the "new" look. I think the key here is to appeal to the "average" buyer and not necesarily the current owners preference since they are trying to sell the home. You could buy a smaple of each type of hardware after installing the new granite and the new appliances and decide which one looks best. Most times there is not one right choice, it's really a matter of each person's preference. You could also poll your fellow agents to find out which "look" they feel most of their clients would prefer. Honestly, I think with the upgrades of the counter top, sink and appliances that will make the most difference anyway.
