Answer: I would consider blue paint in the kitchen, but the shade would have to blend with all the blues in the floor and the din rm. Bring a swatch of leftover wallpaper if you have it to the paint store. Add fresh all white curtains or valances on any kitcehn windows or back door. Further suggestion for total co-ordination of both rooms to follow in second post.

Answer: At a later date, you might consider a total co-ordination of both kitchen and din rm. Suggestion: Remove wallpaper in din rm and replace with either a blue and white or a yellow and white toile wallpaper (that has matching fabric for drapes. Check Waverly books. Recover din rm chairs ( or add slipcover) in blue and white (or yellow and white which ever you put on the walls) in a buffalo plaid or medium size check (not a baby size small check). Paint the chair rail white and repaint bottom half of wall a soft white. In the kitchen use the opposite color that you used in the din rm. If you used yellow in din rm ( use blue and kitchen and vice versa) A nice soft yellow is Benjamin Moore "Creme Fraiche". Then use accents of blue and white transferware. Do an ebay search if you don;t know what that is.

Answer: Example: in Din Rm change the centerpiece to a large blue and white transferware bowl filled with fresh (or wax) lemons. Be sure your china cabinet glass display area is not overcrowded. There is a recent Q and A on this forum about how to display. Consider stacking excess dishes in the closed bottom portion of the hutch, Cluttered look will make you room look smaller. If you feel you really have room for the sofa table, then re-accent table with one or two buffet lamps (they are generaly taller and narrower(one on each side). I would love for the lamps to have black shades on them. Group in the center of the sofa table three blue and white ginger jars (different sizes and not too small. (Again, e-bay search). Maybe a large mirror over the sofa table on the wall.Fewer large pieces are better than many tiny pieces in a small room. The toile can be a formal fabric but the check tones that down. If you are handy and can sew, you might be able to make the din rm drapes. They don;t ahve to be pinch pleated. Just rod pocket type, with tie backs, on a big fat pole. Waverly might have ready made to match the wallpaper. Check Waverly online or American blind and Wallpaper. P.S. it's pronounced "twahl".
