I also have a red (actually burgandy) bedroom and black furnature. It actually works quite well. Keep the window curtains light to offer some contrast though.

I am working on a red and black room right now. I am painting the walls red and the trim and ceiling black. All of my furniture is black and then I'm going to have a black satin bedspread with red satin sheets. The window treatments will be lighter in color. What do you think. |

Well i also want my bedroom to red and black. i had the same problems you did so i got suggestions from family and friends, and now my bedroom is so awesome. i wanted a bedroom i could have fun in and never get tired of looking at too much of black or too much so red. so, i painted my walls red, and gave them a black & silver border on top. the border was made of black painted squares. it had sort of a blocky touch.my furniture is also black. They used to have wooden handles, but i took those off and i got silver squared handles instead. it felt like the furniture for my bed was too big for the size of room i was working with. so i went ahead and left my bed "furniture-less". now my bed sits on it's frame.the comforter was a hard thing to deal with. what i did was put on a red & black patched comforter. to finish my bed i added a silver backboard and threw on a couple of red, black and silver pillows to compliment the patches throughout the room.my carpet is black because i have kids who are very playful. well as you had said you didn't want your carpet being all black. may i suggest carpet tile? well you can get these in a variety of colors. For the warmth in your room, try black & red different shapes. the shapes of the carpet will definatly stand out. this will also make the room look bigger.in my room, i also wanted to add some light to show off my bright red walls so i also added three tall, fabric covered lamps on one wall and some more cieling lights. and this definatly made my walls and carpet not look so deep and dark. |

| Answer:
Do one wall red and paint the other walls to compliment that wall. Options would be striped painted walls using red, black, gray and white. Or painted geometric patterns incorporating the colors that I mentioned. I would consider a reversible comforter in black/red. Availabe at JC Penneys. Adding patterned pillows and flipping the comforter over periodically will give the room a fresh look without investing any money. |

| Answer:
Try red all over, red walls, comforter, curtains, then throw black in as all your accents, throw pillow, candles, black and white photos, candles on pillars in black and white, black throw rugs. That would be rich and elegant. |

Yes, Red is bold and scarey to work with. I have a fabulous new kitchen deep cayenne red colored walls. We'll have birch natural cabinets, lots of chrome, and black granite countertops. The ceiling is ivory. I'm wondering whether to paint the 4 window trims black or ivory. Ivory seems too fancy for our modern look. (It's a big room.) Any ideas? |

| Answer:
Waking to red can make some people violent, does your other half have a drinking problem? If yes, I would stick to blue or yellow. You wouldn't want to wake to a broken nose would you? orange can have the same effect. Be very careful and good luck. |
