Home : Q&A : Floors : What color hard wood

Name: Laurie Title of Question: What color hard wood
Question: I want to rip up the carpet and put down hardwood flooring. Most of our furniture is cherrywood,Mahogany, black leather and cream colored ultra suede. My husband and I disagree. I want a warm tea colored floor and my husband wants the mahogany. My thought is that I want our furniture to stand out, it's beautiful and the area that we are changing is already a dark area with only a few windows letting in light. If we had the mahogany floor it would make the rooms seem even darker and our furniture would be lost. I thought that I would pick a color that would play on the lightest color in the mahogany on our piano. Any suggestions???

Answer: I agree with you. I would pick a warm medium tone for the hardwood. Too light of a color will not work but too dark will darken and fight your mahogany.
