For durability and cost savings laminate is best. Depends on your family's needs and your budget. Laminates have improved a lot, but still lack that variation and shine in color that real wood has. I have real hardwood in my home, but recently installed laminate floors (with cork underlayment) in our beach cottage, which we also rent. For cost and durability the laminate won!
