Answer: Your suggestion would be the perfect solution providing that it doesnt clutter the space. An open kitchen/dining area can be very inviting. The kitchen is the gathering space in the home. If it is a small area to begin with I would consider leaving it as is.

Answer: Natalee: You didn't create a new question, you put your question as a response to another person's question, so I don;t know how many replies you'll get. There is not one right color for any room. The color of your cabinets, floor and countertop plus your own personal preferences for certain colors will help you determine where to start. For example, if you had cherrywood cabinets then I would personally not use red on the walls as the cabinets have a red tone to them. Some wood stains on cabinets are more neutral and you'd be able to use most any color you like. Keep in mind if your kitchen is open to other rooms, keeping a flow of similiar or coordinating colors is best. If your cabinets, floors and countertop are neutral, then you could start with a fabric for window treaments and choose a color for the walls from the fabric.
