Title of Question:
paint colours |

Question: i want to paint our bathroom. it is small, only about eight feet by ten feet. it has a bathtub, toilet and vanity. the vanity top is a light blue, the toilet sink and tub are white. the end wall of the room as well as one short wall at the end of the tub are done in cedar tongue and groove. the wall behind the vanity (which has a three foot wide mirror/cabinet above it.....the vanity itself is about three and a half feet long) is white. what colour should i paint the white wall? i don't want to get rid of the cedar as i like the warmth of it. the flooring at present is an inexpensive peel and stick tile in a 'parquet' style (it is up for change too.) i need to know which colours compliment the cedar walls. |

| Answer:
I have painted a few houses and read a lot of decorating mags. When it comes to small rooms, especially bathrooms, toilets and laundry's, as a rule the lightest colours are always best. Cream and white would not be the best choice because of the blue vanity top. I have a pale blue toilet and sink (not my choice), everything else is white. I would go with a shade of white. White looks fantastic, its fresh and clean and crisp and goes great with blue, the cedar will still give you the warmth, and accessorise! |

| Answer:
A creamy white. This will give the room crispness while at the same time complimenting the wood. Add accessories in a bit darker shade of blue and pumpkin. This is a very striking color combo. The blue will relate back to the vanity top helping to tie it in better and the pumpkin will enhance the color of the wood. |
