Name: Billie Snyder Title of Question: painting/staining ceramic floor tile
Question: Can white ceramic floor tile be painted or stained? I hate the white; it shows dirt and we have oak hardwood flooring in family room adjacent to it and it looks too stark.

Answer: You can paint it but a bit of prep work is required for a high traffic area such as this. First you would need to lightly wet sand with a fine sandpaper. In doing this you wont create scratches in the tile. Use a tack cloth to remove the residue. Apply a primer such as KILZ. Then paint with outdoor house paint. This is very durable.
