Instead create the tropical feeling with dark wood furniture pieces or some dark wicker accents. Add some green elements and perhaps one live, large palm tree in the room. Cover some pillows in a tropical, palm print fabric and you could some palm tree art. Keep the sofa and chairs neutral(like a khaki or lt. brown color) and use the accents in the tropical prints, so if you change your mind on the theme later, you can inexpensively change the look. A soft dull yellow on the wall would look nice.
