Title of Question:
updating 16 year old house |
|
Question: We have updated by adding wood looking floors and bamboo floors in most of our first floor-our carpet to our 2nd floor which has game/tv area, 2bedrooms and full bath is stained. we had off white with beige specs. What new colors are people doing?
Our walls are vanilla and I would love to update that as well. we redid our kitchen with darker granite and faux walls in "coffee stain" which i love!!
Suggestions on carpet and color palate? thank you! |

| Answer:
Since carpet is such an expense I would stay with a neutral. It is the easiest to decorate around. As for the paint colors it depends on what feeling you want in the rooms. Color creates a mood or feeling. Bedrooms should be soothing to allow sleep. Green or blue is typically good for sleeping areas, very tranquil and relaxing. Kitchens do well in greens or yellows. Yellow is said to be a color of energy and can create tension or anger. Well lit spaces typically handle this color better. Red is wonderful for a DR as it is said to stimulate the appetite. |

| Answer:
I love carpet that mimics the color of natural sisal. They are very neutral and while they have the natural color of sisal they are softer for walking on and come in subtle patterns that can create interest. For colors for painting walls or for fabrics, I like to repeat at least one color in varying degrees around the same floor of the house. Example, if my kitchen and family room are visible to each other, my kitchen might be painted green and the family room yellow, but then I use some green in the fabrics in family room to tie the rooms visually together. It's especially helpful when rooms connect or are very open to each other. |
