Title of Question:
what color would go best for living room |

Question: Our kitchen and dining room are painted a deep plummy brown color..it looks good with our fruitwood cabinets and trim and light beige tile on floor..I do not want to repaint the kitchen/dining.. I need to know what color to paint our livingroom..carpet is light beige, sofa and loveseat are also a very light buckskin beige color. we have vaulted ceilings with a brick fireplace..kind of a tan and burnt color. with fruitwood trim.We only have 1 window so it's very gloomy even though we added ceiling lights........I would like combo of warm rich tones blended with the neutral. Nothing bright! I like burgundy, light beige, black and hunter green colors. An accent wall would be nice but not sure which one since fireplace is of wood and brick...but rest of room looks very drab! room is narrow across and long lengthwise! Husband wants room to be a light beige but it will look very blah unless we can add accent wall or color by pics and drapery.
Any suggestions to make warm and cozy feeling?

| Answer:
I would stick with a neutral on the wall(so you don't further darken a room without much natural light) and add the color and warmth in the pillows, art and drapes. I would choose window treatments in a color similar to the wall color in kit/dining rooms or a print/floral that has that color in it. And I would add skylights in the vaulted ceiling for added natural light. |

| Answer:
I would consider either a neutral in a color darker than your darkest piece of furniture or go with the lightest or second to lightest color from the paint strip that you used in your dining/kitchen area. Another option is to use the same color on your fireplace wall creating an accent wall. Since you have a vaulted ceiling the room should appear to be light and open. You can create warmth by adding decorative pillows in a tepestry or paisely pattern as well as adding an area rug. If you opt for the neutral colored walls find draperies in a color that compliments your dining/kitchen area for the LR. A chocolate color would also work and add warmth to the room. Lighting is important. Remember to distribute lighting AROUND the room. |
