How to Spruce Up Your Home's Exterior

When you're at home you spend the majority of your time indoors, so it's easy to forget about the outside. There are loads of articles that focus on upcoming interior design trends or ways to redecorate your home, but there are easy way to improve your home's exterior, too.

Clean and Clear

These are obvious ways to enhance the curb appeal of your home, but they can make a huge difference. Remove dead plants or foliage and replace with potted plants; clear guttering and pipes; clean windows and doors; sweep paths or driveways; and trim trees and hedges.

Paint and Varnish

This can be a laborious task but you won't believe how much it can improve your home's exterior. Take the time to varnish or paint fences, gates and sheds for a garden that is summer ready. Make sure you don't neglect decking or summer houses which you'll want in pristine condition for family gatherings or parties.

Replace Windows and Doors

Wooden window frames require upkeep. They'll need repainting, which can cause windows to jar and stick, and will eventually rot over time. Replacing with sturdy uPVC will give your windows longevity, provide better insulation, and make the exterior of your home look smart and clean. The same goes for doors. Swap an old wooden front door for a secure modern one, or add patio doors that lead out onto the rear garden to create a functional space with a sleek finish.

Window Treatments

You might not think of window treatments as a way to improve the external appearance of your home, but a well dressed window can make a big difference. Hang curtains, put up blinds, and place accessories on windowsills. You can also add window boxes on the outside to grow herbs, seasonal flowers, or evergreens that will thrive all year long.

Sort Out the Garden

Neglecting the garden can turn your small piece of paradise into an unrecognisable jungle. If you have a lawn, mow it regularly and improve any areas that have been damaged by planting seeds or laying new rolls of turf. If you have paving stones or concrete, sweep the area on a regular basis and clean with a pressure washer to make it look like it's just been laid. With any garden, make sure you get rid of pesky weeds that make your garden look unkempt and untidy. Alternatively, consider hiring a landscaper to give your garden a complete makeover.

It's easy to spruce up the exterior of your home. Sort out windows, clean windows and clear rubbish, varnish any wood, and remove weeds to make your home look as good on the outside as it does on the inside.
