WOW!! Where does the time go? If ya'll are as busy as I am, I'm sure you feel like you want to get off the merry- go- round for awhile. Here it is June, the kids will be home soon, vacations are around the corner and time is short as always, but it's also a good opportunity to get a few home projects done that took a backseat during the busy school year.

I sincerely hope you have enjoyed your spring and all the beautiful weather, flowers and new life that emerges each spring. It really is a remarkable time of the year!! In Florida it is very hot already and we are in a severe drought. We are praying for rain, however the hurricane season is almost upon us, so we need summer rain storms and the hurricanes to stay in the ocean!!

I thought this month I would share some do's and don'ts about accessorizing, and provide some pictures of a properly displayed shelf and one improperly displayed. Many of you struggle with this part of decorating, but it is really easy to make the simplest everyday home items wonderful accessories that will add charm and charisma to your home.

FINDING ACCESSORIES

Let's start in your home! As we live out lives, we manage to collect all kinds of objects, treasures, souvenirs and gift. Some of these things will make wonderful accessories. Using them as such will also allow you to display your life's treasures in a polished way. Start by gathering everything you have and sitting them on a table or counter space. Group them according to subject, size and color. Determine what can be used effectively and what cannot.

We will assume that most of your belongings will work fine, but you still need a few more. Finding accessories for you home is like going on a treasure hunt. The thrill of the hunt is part of the fun! Take your time looking. You will probably not find everything you need in one weekend. Go to garage sales, thrift stores, auctions, craft stores, furniture stores, department stores, discount stores, gift shops, specialty theme stores and and of course the internet. You might try talking you mother out of something you have always liked. Personally, I have had no luck in doing this, but you might!!

HOW TO PLACE AND ARRANGE ACCESSORIES

Back to the countertop or table you have placed your collection of older and new accessories - look at them carefully and evaluate their perspective, height and color. Once you have done this, accessorize one area or tabletop at a time pulling from the collection you have assembled. The next step is very important. Vary the heights of the objects to be used together to create a staggered altitude, usually working with three items. One of these may be greenery. Do not line up together two or more objects of the same size unless you are arranging the interior of your china cabinet. Even if you were in the china cabinet, you would want to break up the line of plates by placing teacups in front for dimension.

I do not think I can say this too many times…. Avoid creating a level assemblage. A clever way to add height to an item too small is to sit it upon tow or three stacked books or a box. You can make the most out of what you have by using this trick.
