Pillow Talk

If your rooms seem a little drab, don’t despair. A group or cluster of plump accent pillows may seem like a small change, but for very little investment, they add a lot of style and color. Mix and match fabrics to create pillows with personal style. Use stripes for a pretty border opposite, geometric prints for fun, mixed with your favorite coordinating prints. Trim them with tassels, fringe and braid for additional personality and charm. If your handy and can sew them yourself, you can save as much as $50.00 per pillow for labor costs. Here are some additional ways to save even more money if you follow these tips.

  1. Search through sale and remnant tables for discounted fabrics. Check with design firms for remnants and scraps of designer fabrics they may be willing to sell at a discount.

  2. Recycle throw pillows by discarding the covers and sewing new covers to fit the forms.

  3. Check your supplies. You already may have pretty buttons, fabric scraps, or vintage trims that would add the perfect finishing touch.

  4. Make several pillows from the same fabric. This allows you to get the most from fabric yardage that is 45 to 60 inches wide. Using scraps for welts, trims etc.

  5. Make your own pillow forms, and cover your own cording.
