5 - Headboard Options
In my guest bedroom, I have two twin beds left over from the children’s rooms, which do not have headboards. So I found two companion pictures that worked with the colors and theme of the bedroom, that were 22”W X 30”L framed. I hung each one above the bed at eye level. Propping multiple shams and pillows up against the wall, fills the void space between the bed and bottom of picture. The finished look is delightful and quite charming. It never enters the mind, that there is not a headboard on the beds. You can do it too!

6 - An Artistic Headboard
Have a piece of plywood cut to the corresponding size of the bed it is being used for. You can add legs to the board so it reaches the appropriate height or simply attach it to the wall. Consider the wood as a blank canvas for your chosen art. The outline of the wood can also be cut with a jigsaw to a shape that works with your theme. Stencils are excellent tools to use for painting the wood or you may want to use an image projector to transfer a picture transparency onto the plywood. It can then be outlined and painted in colors that coordinate with the room. I made this type of headboard for my son when he graduated from the crib (24 years ago). I created a jungle theme room. On plywood, I drew a lion’s head (cartoon style), cut it out, and painted it in bright colors. I also used plywood cut to look like clouds, painted them white and hung over the windows with inexpensive shades below. I did the same idea for a friend in 1978, creating Snoopy’s doghouse from the “Peanuts” cartoon as the headboard. It was darling! With a jigsaw and a little paint you can create a charming headboard for any room in your home!
