Traditional Bathroom Style

One of the most popular and enduring styles in bathroom décor is traditional style.  Taking on the elegance of Old World Europe, traditional décor tends to be more formal and luxurious than other bathroom styles.  Master baths, guest baths and powder rooms take on traditional style with a flourish.

Floors

Marble floors are right at home in traditional bathrooms.  Radiant floor heating can take the chill off the cold marble and make it much more comfy in the winter.  While marble and water can make it a little slippery in the bath, fluffy, non-slip throw rugs can make the style work more safely.

Ceramic tile has taken on new looks in recent years, with styles that look so much like marble it can be difficult to tell the difference.  With a more budget friendly price, ceramic can also be less slippery and cold.  A handsome ceramic is just the look for a more budget friendly traditional bath.

Lighting

Add a look of opulence with lighting in traditional bathrooms.  Chandeliers can add an elegant look to bathrooms in an unexpected way.  Handsome sconces for task lighting provide uplighting, which helps get rid of shadows that are cast when lighting comes from above.

Fixtures

Opulent fixtures fit right into traditional decorating in bathrooms, but the opulence doesn’t have to be over the top.  The look can be easy to get if you're decorating on a budget.  Graceful lines and understated elegance can be found in many forms, whether it be a pedestal sink with a reeded base or an arched faucet with porcelain handles.  It doesn’t need to be expensive to be traditional.

Accessories

Bring in some elegant accessories for traditional bathroom décor.  Consider:

  • Window treatments in a floral fabric;
  • A toile covered stool or vanity bench;
  • An antique wash pitcher and basin to hold flowers;
  • Botanical prints as wall art;
  • An antique glass as a drinking cup; or
  • A traditional wallpaper.

Furniture

Work in furnishings from other parts of the home to bring a more formal look to the room.  An antique dresser transformed to a vanity base is perfect in a traditionally decorated bathroom.  A Victorian marble topped stand is a perfect fit in this style of decorating, and can hold an antique bowl filled with soaps and accessories.

Decorating in a traditional style in the bathroom brings a quiet elegance to the room that can outdo the less formal spa retreat style.
