Storage Savvy
In our kitchens, keeping pots, cans, knives, and knickknacks under control takes more than resolve; it takes a place for everything. Here are a few storage tips that will provide space and added décor at the same time.
-
Consider dual use furniture. For example: A built-in bench that seats your family at the dinner table and provides storage for bulky items at the same time. Chairs would seat the family, but provide no storage.
-
Be creative with small spaces. Look around your kitchen; a space as narrow as 4 inches makes room enough for a row of cans or extra cleaning items.
-
Store and display at the same time. A collection of antique plates can be displayed in a nook above a refrigerator. An open shelf can house a collection of teapots or cookbooks. Cabinetry often offers good-looking display cubbyholes for a wine collection.
-
Store with creativity. Rustic baskets stacked on a countertop or nestled on open shelves offer storage for everything from towels to tea bags.
