Cheap Chic

You don’t have to spend a bundle to create the look you want for your home. Especially for some of the popular “Shabby Chic” or “Cottage Look” home decorating styles.

  1. Shop everywhere! Look for bargains at furniture stores, second-hand shops, antique malls, flea markets, and garage sales. Keep your eyes and ears open for friends & family cast-offs.

  2. Be alert to roadside finds and rework them. Remember, Casey’s headboard featured in the August newsletter. Her mom found it in someone’s yard, just before it got hauled off. Even, if the entire piece can’t be used, consider the legs, top, hardware etc. for another project and toss the rest. You have nothing to lose.

  3. Don’t turn up your nose at slightly flawed antiques. Imperfections add character and bargaining power.

  4. Get custom looks with paint. Try a little decorative painting on objects such as lampshades, lamps, accent furniture, chairs, stools, headboards, dressers, trunks, chests, picture frames, mirror frames, bookcases and so on….
