5 - Decorating
with quilts and Textiles
Quilts and tapestries are fabulous decorative items and make impressive
wall hangings. They work especially well in rooms with high vaulted
or cathedral ceilings and in stairwells where large pieces are needed to
fill two-story spaces. They can be hung over furniture in the place of
traditional artwork for a special touch. Stacks of quilts make
wonderful decorating accents to the country/cottage style. They can
be used draped over a table or hung on accent furniture for impact.
If you are hanging your textiles, be sure to carefully mount them so that
the piece is not damaged. Also, avoid hanging them in direct
sunlight, as the sun will fade and weaken the fibers.
6 - Top It Off
A wonderful way to create a dual-purpose window treatment is a
4-6 deep shelf, mounted on decorative brackets at the top of the window
frame. It will double as a window topper and a place to display your
favorite collections. Choose shelf brackets, which match the
style of the mood of your room. Most styles are readily available at
home improvement stores. Gingerbread designs or more formal shapes
would give the window an entirely different look. Paint the shelf
and bracket to match the color décor of your room or the wood trim of the
window. A simple window valance can also be added for additional
color and personality.
